introduction
Ephemerol is a Colour Scheme created for the Kaleidoscope control panel, created by Greg Landweber (greg@math.harvard.edu) and company.
If you donﾕt have Kaleidoscope installed, download the package from your local info-mac mirror or from The Kaleidoscope Web Site <URL:http://www.kaleidoscope.net>. When you have Kaleidoscope installed, drop the Ascaris colour scheme file into the ﾔKaleidoscope Color Schemesﾕ folder in the ﾔExtensionsﾕ folder of your ﾔSystem Folder,ﾕ open the Kaleidoscope control panel, and select the Ascaris scheme.
design rationale
Ascaris is a flat, boring interface. I designed it that way, because I really dislike all of those flashy, lets-see-how-many-people-we-can-blind, overly-colourful Schemes that are out there.
I have taken elements elements from the BeOS, the Apple Lisa, along with a few others, and tried to slap it all into a small little package. Oh, yes, I also borrowed some icons from Macintosh System 0.97. Nothing like those pre-release Apple products for nice art.
about the name
Ascaris is the family name of a group of roundworms. That is, worms that aren't segmented (earthworms) or flat (liver flukes ﾑ think X-Files). Ascaris is a typical roundworm, and is often used to describe the general anatomy of the entire order. The big A exists in both free-living and parasitic forms. The parasitic forms are found mainly in the intestine of the large vertebrates, especially pigs and man.
I had originally decided to call the scheme ﾔSlab,ﾕ but after a few betas my beta-testers and I agreed that the code name (the worthy ﾔAscarisﾕ) was much cooler than the name I had originally thought of. Thus, I changed my mind and named my new, boring, grey Scheme after a worm.
suggestions for use
I like to use Ascaris with good olﾕ Chicago 12 as the System font, and the included Geneva Classic 9 for Finder views. I prefer a simple grey background for my Finder windows ﾑ none of those fancy patterns it takes my LC II five minutes to draw.

Distribution of Ascaris without this accompanying ﾔAbout Ascarisﾕ readme is prohibited. Modification of this colour scheme and distribution of modified schemes under the name of Ascaris is prohibited.
Ascaris is freeware, but is copyright and is not in the public domain. Permission is granted to include Ascaris on CD-ROMs and other media sold as goods, provided that Scott Lewis, the author, is informed (a copy would be nice). This includes cover disks and cover CD-ROMs supplied with computer magazines.
